Repost for the morning crowd!
After my first successful motorcycle roadtrip from Cincinnati to Nashville I’ve started to get a little itch to do some more 2-wheeled traveling. Nashville was fun, but I’m from the south so I’m somewhat familiar with that area of the country. So I started looking around on google maps to see if anywhere piqued my interest that I could realistically go to over a long weekend. South was ruled out already and West didn’t seem to have much to offer within a reasonable distance besides Indianapolis or Chicago. I could go East, but (and I may be wrong about this) I don’t find the thought of riding my bike into DC that appealing. So then I should go North!
I realized that I’ve never really been very far North and never been to Canada so why not go see Niagara Falls! I could split the ride there over two days. Cincy to Cleveland and Cleveland to Niagara Falls. Then I figured why go back the way I came and see the same sights again when I can cut through Canada to Detroit then head back down to Cincinnati. Effectively looping around Lake Erie!
Boom, I give you the Lake Erie Loop. Operation LEL for short. It’s pretty long, but I figure what the hell, why not. I’m thinking it would be a 4 day trip.
Day 1: Cincy to Cleveland, 245 miles
Day 2: Cleveland to Niagara Falls, 215 miles
Day 3: Niagara Falls to Detroit, 237 miles
Day 4: Detroit to Cincy, 258
I’m also considering adding in a 5th day in the middle to rest and/or explore Niagara Falls or to hop up to and check out Toronto. I’m thinking I’d probably stick to the Interstates in Ohio to make good time and because its pretty flat and boring then get on backroads and highways around the lake.
So what do y’all think? Crazy? Awesome? Crazy awesome? If you any suggestions on roads or routes or know anything that’s a must-see let me know!

Just try to not stop in Hamilton for too long. And avoid downtown. Really, just avoid Hamilton.

Ever been to Pittsburgh? I’m definitely biased since I grew up there, but we’ve got tons of sweet museums, some notable restaurants and MLB’s most popular stadium!

My dad actually rode a similar route a few years ago, except starting and ending in Cleveland. I know he liked it a lot, it’s a beautiful drive

If you are just running through Canada switch to the 402 after London. Shorter and easier. 3 hours of flat assed sw ontario is boring. If you are looking for a tour, run highway 3, south of it. You can go to port dover! You can see a retired submarine! You can .... fuck it. Take the 401.

Hamilton is a great place to be from! Far far away from.

I’ve actually heard some good things about Pittsburgh lately, I might make a trip out there sometime before the end of the riding season

haha good to know. Never really heard of it, is Hamilton a bad area? Anyway, I actually will probably hop down to highway 3 out of Niagara Falls so I think I’ll be good.

Looks good. the 401 between Hamilton and Windsor is very very very boring and filled with big rigs. Thought you should know.

Yeah this initial route is just what google maps spit out. I intend to take the scenic route around the lake and stick to the coastline to see the sights and avoid the busy roads

Looks great! I’ve pondered a loop around Lake Ontario, myself, since I live in Massachusetts. Meet you at Niagara Falls? (Believe it or not, I’ve never been there.)

You’re going to drive by my mother’s hometown of Ashland, OH. Home of Grandpa’s Cheesebarn, and the Ashland/Wooster Drive-In.

Flat/Boring? I take it you don’t travel to Eastern Ohio much?
Also, random tip.. Take I-71 to I-271 when you get to the Cleveland area..
I-271 is hilly (Not twisty) and it cuts through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the views are GORGEOUS.. But keep in mind that they are doing construction on I-271 right now and it’s kind of a pain to drive ATM, so I’ll let the decision be up to you.

Very true, I regularly go on rides east out of Cincinnati and the roads are much more fun. I should clarify that I was referring to the big flat bit in the middle that I’ll be driving through.
Thanks for the tip on I271!
